Update on Confirmed Case of COVID-19

23 July 2020

Cathay Pacific Services Limited was notified by a subcontractor that one of their employees tested positive for COVID-19 on 23 July 2020. The individual last reported for duty on 20 July at Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal (CPCT), and was responsible for export cargo build-up. They wore a surgical mask when performing their duties, and co-workers who had been in close contact with the index staff member have been placed off duty and will take throat saliva tests. CPCT has already thoroughly cleaned the area in which the employee had worked, and also all service outlets, the canteen, changing rooms, elevators and public areas that the employee had last visited.

The health and safety of all working parties in CPCT is of paramount importance. CPCT has stepped up precautionary measures and has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation to make appropriate adjustments since January. In light of the latest developments, we have escalated the response level, and the following procedures and follow-up actions have taken place.

  1. Regular cleaning and disinfection will be enhanced, including all service outlets, the canteen, changing rooms, elevators and public areas;
  2. All personnel including visitors who enter CPCT will be required to wear a face mask. We also limit number of people in elevators and have tightened access control at the CPCT canteen to reduce the people density in enclosed environments;
  3. Arrangements have been made for split-team operation and work from home where feasible.

We always remind all staff and terminal users to maintain good personal hygiene and advise them to seek medical advice immediately if they feel unwell. We are keeping in close contact with the relevant authorities and units in Hong Kong.
