United in One Heart to Fight COVID-19

04 March 2020

Following the COVID-19 outbreak, the volume of inbound mail remains at a high level since early February due to an upsurge of mail containing surgical masks and personal health products the public has purchased from various countries over the world.  This exerts pressure on the Air Mail Centre of Hongkong Post.

Facing the challenges, Hongkong Post co-works with Cathay Pacific Services Ltd for a contingency plan. CPSL designates an area, swiftly sets up a temporary mail handling center at Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal in 2 days and redeploys a team of 30 staff providing service to Hongkong Post for handling the inbound mail.  The temporary mail handling center commences operation since 10 February, aims to speed up the handling process and relieve the operational pressure of the Air Mail Centre, most importantly to support Hongkong Post to speed up the delivery of surgical masks and personal health products to the public to combat the epidemic.

CPSL has processed over 900 airmail ULDs, more than 40,000 shipments containing surgical masks up to end of February. Ms. Jenny Lam, CEO of CPSL, and Ms. Teresa Au, Deputy Postmaster General of Hongkong Post, visited the operations site on 19 February to express their appreciation to the staff for their speedy action on handling the large number of shipments to fulfill the community’s urgent needs.
